As time was going by, Galicia was consolidating itself in the ornamental plant sector. With the idea of getting its consolidation, the Galician Ornamental Plants Producers Association ASPROGA comes up in 1998, with 27 members. Since its creation this number has increased to achieved the current 48 associates, therefore, we can say that ASPROGA represents a high percentage of Galician production.
One of the main aims of plant growers is to be able to produce plants with a high quality level that allows them to meet the current demand, since the present production in Galicia is not enough to supply the demand coming to the community from outside.
The main action lines of the entity are the following:
1. Representation, defense and promotion of legitimate professional interests of its associates.
2. Execution of technical and economic studies in order to provide its associates a better yield of their crops.
3. Advise of associates in all those problems that could be presented.
4. Participate, in accordance with current legislation, in the organizations of Public Administrations and in those with consultative or advisory status related with the sector.
5. Advise and inform all Public Administration organs, as well as members of the Association, about situations that can affect the economy of companies of the sector, making appropiate reports and proposals.
6. Creation of Study Cabinets to be able to research and offer information on cultivation areas, productions, varieties, normalization and productive potencial, by editing newsletters, magazines and other publications.
¿WHAT DOES ASPROGA OFFER TO ITS ASSOCIATES?
The Association carries out its tasks around work committees, the latter are a very important figures within the Association: normalization, travels, training and computing. Each of them has a representative in the Board of Directors that coordinate the works to be started. Among these we highlight the training days, the creation of the ASPROGA web page, a promotional video, organization of I RCO VERDE, VI Exhibition of ASPROGA, training trips, visit to associate nurseries, participation in the international fairs ...
Besides, almost every day, information of interest is included in the partners' area of this web page to keep them punctually informed about ASPROGA's news gathered in press and in magazines of the sector, topics treated in Managerial Meeting and committees of work, information appeared in official bulletins, etc.
We reedit the Guide Book of Galician Nurseries associates in ASPROGA with data updating. It is a promotional catalogue in which it is presented in a detailed way the species list produced by each of the associate nurseries, as well as complete information on the company.
ASPROGA is member of the Spanish Federation of Associations of Fruit, Vegetable, Flowers and Live Plants Exporters and Producers (Federación Española de Asociaciones de Productores – Exportadores de Frutas, Hortalizas, Flores y Plantas Vivas, FEPEX) and the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior, ICEX).
Likewise, conversations with the Administration are carried on regularly, since it is a necessary interlocutor for our work, establishing agreements and collaborations.
ASPROGA will keep on working with effort, the willing and the hopes to carry on enhancing the ornamental plants sector.
